Courtney W. Shelbourne DMD

Dr. Shelbourne performs more Dental Implants than any other oral surgeon in South Carolina.

Educated at the Medical University of South Carolina and Yale-New Haven Hospital, Dr. Shelbourne is board certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. His residency training stressed anesthesia/pain control for both children and adults, removal of wisdom teeth, soft and hard tissue reconstruction for dental/facial implants, corrective jaw surgery for children and adults, facial trauma repair and reconstruction, and evaluation and treatment of various oral pathology and TMJ disorders.

Dr. Shelbourne chose oral surgery because it gives him the freedom to carve out his own lane, while delivering more personalized care than patients typically experience in the medical field. 

Utilizing the leading Nobel Biocare Dental Implant system, Dr. Shelbourne continues to perform more All-on-4 procedures than any other surgeon in South Carolina. As the first surgeon in South Carolina certified to place the zygomatic implant, he is also able to provide care to patients with severe bone loss. He holds membership in multiple dental societies and has hospital privileges at Roper Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, and East Cooper Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Shelbourne enjoys waterskiing, traveling, gardening, architecture, and spending time with his six children and his wife Rhiannon. He is also an active volunteer in the community, and is passionate about improving the lives of orphans and at-risk children

After completing his Doctorate of Dental Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Ware completed his residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY. His training included the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery including complex dental extractions and implants, reconstructive oral and facial surgeries, treatment of various oral pathologies and various corrective surgeries of the jaw and face, in addition to surgical treatment of facial trauma and TMJ pathologies. During this time he also put his bioengineering skills to use by implementing the 3D printing of surgical guides, making major corrective surgeries faster and more accurate for his patients.


Dr. Ware chose a career in oral and maxillofacial surgery in part because it provided him with the opportunity to combine his passion for dental medicine with his mechanical skills and bioengineering background, as well as the multitude of ways in which he could positively impact another person’s quality of life.


Dr. Ware enjoys the outdoors, especially being on the water and fishing. He loves trying new restaurants and other culinary experiences. He loves spending time with friends and family, especially his son Finnley and wife Morgan. He is passionate about providing the best care possible for his patients and positively impacting others whenever possible.

Dr. Colleen Holewa is a dual degreed oral and maxillofacial surgeon, first obtaining her Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine followed by her Medical degree at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She then went on to complete a general surgery internship followed by an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of North Carolina in 2021.  During residency, she trained in broad scope oral and maxillofacial surgery and now has a special interest in corrective jaw surgery, benign pathology and dental implants. Dr. Holewa is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, The American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and is affiliated with the American Medical Association and American Dental Association.


Dr. Holewa takes pride in providing the highest level of safety and care to her patients. She has extensive training in office base anesthesia and often takes continuing education classes to further her knowledge on the latest advancements in procedures and techniques. She has extensive knowledge in regards to pain control and anxiety reducing strategies.


Dr. Holewa enjoys yoga, reading and jogging. On the weekend, she loves taking her golden retriever on walks and exploring new areas. She is up for trying any new local coffee spot and loves a good bakery shop.

Marissa Bergthold DMD

Dr. Marissa Bergthold was raised in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri before obtaining her bachelor's in Chemistry from Missouri S&T. During her undergrad, she held multiple leadership positions in her sorority and on campus with her favorite being the Director of Community Service. Following her undergraduate degree, Dr.Bergthold attended the University of Utah School of Dentistry where she founded the Health and Wellness Committee of ASDA to encourage dental students to focus on healthy eating and being active.


Upon completion of her Doctorate of Dental Surgery, she was accepted into Christiana Care Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program in Wilmington, Delaware.  Her training included the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery including facial trauma, benign and malignant pathology, reconstructive surgeries, corrective jaw surgeries, TMJ, minor cosmetic procedures, and complex dental extractions and implants.


Being an oral and maxillofacial surgeon allows Dr. Bergthold to combine her passions of giving back to the community while promoting and restoring the health and wellness of her patients.


Dr. Bergthold enjoys working out, biking, hiking, skiing, board games, and trying new food. She is also looking forward to trying her hand at gardening to see if she has a green thumb!
